Apple to Invest $1bn on New Campus In Austin Texas To Create Jobs

Apple is massively expanding its infrastructure in the USA. In Austin alone, 5000 additional jobs are being created.

The iPhone maker Apple wants to invest a billion dollars in a new campus in Austin, Texas. The group said Thursday morning. The site is to be built close to the previous location in the Texas metropolis.

In Austin, Apple already employs more than 6,000 people. The new campus should initially bring 5000 additional jobs with further growth capacity to 15000.

The technology group also intends to open additional campuses in Seattle, San Diego, and Culver City and each will create about 1,000 jobs. Further jobs are to be created at existing locations over the next three years.

“Apple is proud to bring new investment, jobs, and opportunities to cities across the US and significantly enhance our 25-year partnership with the city of Austin and its people,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement. “Talent, creativity and tomorrow’s groundbreaking ideas are not limited by region or zip code. With this expansion, we are doubling our commitment to cultivating the high-tech sector and our workforce nationwide. ”

The city of Austin has long been one of the most important locations in the US tech industry . Especially the digital conference “South by Southwest” attracts great attention every year. In addition to Apple, Alphabet, Facebook, Dropbox, and Oracle are also represented in the city.

In Texas San Diego, about 320 kilometers away from Austin, the chip company Qualcomm has its headquarters, with whom Apple is fighting a court battle.

The new investment is part of Apple’s five years $30 billion U.S. investment plan. The company has been under immense pressure from the Trump administration to make U.S. investments.

Apple has plans to create 20,000 jobs in the United States over the next five years.

Donald Trump praised the move and described it as a victory for his efforts.

“I promised that my policies would allow companies like Apple to bring massive amounts of money back to the United States. Great to see Apple follow through as a result of TAX CUTS,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
