So, you’ve spent the last few years studying information technology, and now you’re at the final part where you have to write and submit a dissertation, but you don’t know how to go about it? If this is your story, or you need some tips to help you push one, you’re on the right page. While the best guide that you can have for your dissertation are your supervisor, the committee, and other graduate students, here are a few tips so you can be outstanding in your dissertation writing.

Table of Contents
1. Choose your topic
2. Start your research
3. Start writing
4. Your first draft is your first draft.
5. Write your introduction last.
6. Get feedbacks early
7. Work with a schedule.
Conclusion

1. Choose your topic

The first step to writing any dissertation is to choose your topic. In this case, your topic is on Information Technology, and it should be around concepts, components, philosophy, and theoretical applications.

Make sure that the topic you’re choosing to write about in your dissertation is a trending IT topic because technology is a constantly evolving field. So writing about an old topic would be of no use to anybody since the world has advanced past it already.

2. Start your research

Now that you’ve picked a trending topic that your supervisor has approved, the next thing to do is start your research. However, to do this, you must first draft your thesis questions and outline the research methods you’ll be using to find the answers to your thesis questions.

Professional dissertation writers advise starting gathering materials and resources about the topic and creating notes that you will use in your dissertation. Create notes from different materials and sources, gather them together, and develop an outline for your dissertation.

3. Start writing

Now that you have done your research, made your notes, and created your outline, it’s time to start writing. You don’t have any reasons to delay further because it only gets harder the more you wait. Even if you are still on your research (which should still be ongoing), start writing simultaneously. Don’t use it as an excuse to delay further. Otherwise, you might not get anything done. If you feel like you need to work on your argument, writing is the best way to do it.

4. Your first draft is your first draft.

Your first draft is what it is – the first draft. Never be under the delusion that you are ending your project with the initial draft. The first draft will be filled with lots of minor and significant errors that you need to correct. Of course, it’s your first try, so you can’t get it right. However, you should show it to your supervisor for their comments and corrections, reflecting in subsequent drafts.

In writing a dissertation, you will need a minimum of two drafts. In many cases, you’ll need to create more drafts before arriving at the final one. A crucial part of writing a dissertation is revising and rewriting. So, once you start writing, you will have to go back and rewrite a couple more times till you have a refined work.

5. Write your introduction last.

Unlike the regular essay in which you will start with the introduction before going into the body, you may get stuck on your introduction if you do this with a dissertation. Start with the body and write the chapters first. After you finish that, it will be easier to gather your thoughts, and you will be sure of what you’re introducing. The fact that your dissertation will be evolving over months that you’ll be working on it is why you shouldn’t introduce it first because you’re not sure what it will evolve into yet.

6. Get feedbacks early

This may depend on your supervisor’s preference, but the ideal scenario is that you get your work across to them regularly so they can go through it and supervise the work. So do it early and do it consistently. This will ensure that you’re on the right path. You don’t want to write three chapters of a dissertation only to find that you’ve been doing the wrong thing.

Getting early feedback sets you on the right track, and constant feedback ensures that you remain on that track. Also, you won’t need to rewrite whole sections if the feedback is consistent. Instead, it’ll just be minor corrections.

7. Work with a schedule.

Create a schedule for you to work with. Have a deadline to complete the individual chapters before moving on to the next one. You may need to figure out the number of pages you’ll write every day to meet your deadline. It makes sense to have a routine. Ensure that your work hours tally with your most productive time of the day.

Conclusion

Writing a dissertation in Information Technology is not as difficult as it may appear. The tips discussed in this article are a proof and they’re a sure way to writing your dissertation successfully.
