Technological development has become an inevitable part of our daily lives. Technology has helped to make life more easy and convenient. Technological advancement has trickled into communication, health, education, even in the insurance sector.

Road safety is one of the greatest beneficiaries of safety technology in your car, helping you prevent accidents and injuries. Let’s delve into some of these developments that are revolutionizing road safety.

Table of Contents
1. Automatic Emergency Braking Systems
2. Back-up cameras
3. Blindspot detection
4. Lane departure warning
5. Forward collision systems
6. Adaptive headlights

1. Automatic Emergency Braking Systems

There are two types of technologies in an automated emergency braking system. Both work to prevent injuries caused by the rear end of the vehicle.

Rear-end accidents account for up to a third of all reported road accidents. An automatic emergency system detects when an impending crash is about to occur. It slows down and stops the vehicle even when the driver fails to take any action.

On the other hand, a dynamic brake support system kicks in immediately the driver brakes but does not entirely avoid an accident.

2. Back-up cameras

Back-up cameras, also known as rear-view video systems, help prevent accidents that occur when the driver decides to back up.

These are the kind of accidents involving motorists or pedestrians getting crushed by an oncoming vehicle pulling out of the driveway or parking lot.

The camera turns on any time the vehicle is reversing, allowing the driver to see the region behind the car directly.

3. Blindspot detection

A driver is usually limited to how far he can see even when side mirrors are in place. This area is known as the blind spot. Blindspot detection ensures there’s no vehicle within their blindspot especially, when changing lanes.

Some versions of the blind spot technology constantly update the driver of the status of the blindspot. Others give warnings and information when the signal is on.

4. Lane departure warning

This technology uses cameras to monitor the position of the vehicle within the lanes’ markings. Lane departure warnings appear when the vehicle begins to drift and no turn signal is showing. This is an excellent way to alert the driver that they’re getting distracted.

Advanced lane departure technology developments take control of the vehicle, ensuring it remains on course on the driver’s behalf.

5. Forward collision systems

It is common for accidents to happen when a driver is looking on the other side of the road or get distracted by a mobile phone. A forward collision system comes in to save the driver from a possible accident.

This system allows a car to estimate the distance between the vehicle and the oncoming one. The calculation helps the vehicle with forward collision system slow down, minimizing the collision’s impact.

6. Adaptive headlights

Headlights are an essential part of safe driving. Adaptive headlights turn on when the steering wheel is turned. They help the driver see anything that may attempt to cross the road unexpectedly, such as  animals.

All vehicle manufacturers must adopt these new technological advancements to help curb road accidents.
