Data Mapping

Data mapping can be defined as the process through which fields from one database are matched to another one. This is a very crucial step that should be taken before data can be migrated or integrated. So, why should an organization prioritize data mapping? Is it that important? We shall discuss this here.

Here are reasons why you need to do data mapping:

1. It helps keep your records updated

One of the advantages of data maps for companies and large organizations is that they can keep their data updated all the time. A business needs to know what kind of clients they are dealing with. There is something known as commercial phenomena. A business may want to keep data about the sales of the various regions and profits generated from these regions. This is done through data analysis. A business may also want to keep and analyze data about the various locations of their warehouses, when to distribute goods to these branches, and so on. All this information is kept in data maps that come in handy when such an analysis is required.

 2. Data maps help organize company information

With regularly updated company data maps, you can organize the information in a better manner that brings efficiency. This is more so for companies that require a comprehensive inventory. Most of the company data maps will be stored in a manner that they are categorized. Data maps are organized from the source of data such as mobile repositories, file servers, cloud repositories, backups, and archives as well as hard copy archives. The information can be further organized in terms of the location. Some data could be in company servers, IT systems, and even from third-party providers. Further, the company data maps can be categorized based on the volume of the data, type of data, status of the data such as archives, offline data, active data, and so on. All these are good ways to ensure company information is better organized for quick retrieval and analysis when required.

3. It helps in faster decision making

With a data map, it is easy for a company to access information. This in essence helps the company to use such data to make informed decisions and in the quickest time possible. When managers and employees make decisions backed by accurate and well-analyzed data, you can only expect success in the company. Managers and workers can rely on data maps to chart the way forward for a company based on emerging trends. An organization that keeps abreast with emerging trends is sure to keep performing even in times of hardship.
