Why Cyber Security Resilience is Beneficial to Your Business

When it comes to cybersecurity, how much resilience does your organization have? This is becoming more and more important, especially due to the fact that a recent Symantec has shown that as high as 60% of all small or medium business entities will go out of business after six months if they go through a significant hacking experience. Thus, making sure that your organization is resilient after a cyberattack is of the utmost importance. Consider some of these reasons why:

If cyber resilience is done right, it will help keep your information secure.

Having cyber security resilience is one of the best ways to keep your information from getting into the wrong hands. Part of the reason for this is because of the hallmarks of cyber resilience is often that all information passes through a dedicated server, meaning that it will protect you from a DDoS attack or from an SQL injection. Even in the event you are hacked, your information will remain secure.

Having a comprehensive cyber resilience system ensures that your whole data system will be protected.

Of course, there are a lot of business owners who will say that they indeed have a cyber resilience system, but unfortunately, they are still missing the boat. Yes, they might have some type of antivirus software, but does the cyber resilience they have in place protect at every turn? Indeed, this is one place where you simply shouldn’t cut costs. A thorough cyber resilience system will leave no stone unturned. They will have such elements as management and protection where they can assess, identify, and manage any of the risks associated with information or network systems; full protection of the supply chain; the ability to continually monitor the system in order to find anomalies; a full response and recovery effort if a cyber incident does occur; and the ability to have full governance and assurance.

A comprehensive cyber resilience system allows you to get back on your feet quickly.

How long could your business last if it was taken out of action? A day? Two days? A week? A month? One of the things that no business owner wants to talk about would be the fact that the longer their business is out of commission the more likely that they will have to shutter the business completely. The longer a business is incapacitated, the less revenue that it will bring in. However, a thorough cyber resilience plan will ensure that a business will bounce back as quickly as possible from a devastating cyberattack. They will have safeguards and backup plans in place to help you move forward.

Cyber resilience will maintain the integrity of an organization.

Another important aspect of cyber resilience is that it will keep the integrity of your organization in check. For example, it will allow you to effectively monitor the potential harm that a cyber criminal can cause. Additionally, if you have a solid cyber resilience framework in place, it can keep the company in good standing and shield it from such difficult things as public criticism, sudden revenue losses, business cuts, administrative problems, or even possible liability issues.

Cyber resilience will help your organization fulfill legal requirements.

In many jurisdictions, you run the risk of getting on the wrong side of the law if you don’t have an effective cyber resilience system in place. You need such things as a reasonable protection measure against these threats and the ability to inform the authorities of any serious cyber incident. Thus, protecting data security is not just important for your company, but it is important for you to be a law-abiding citizen as well.

As you can see, having a cyber resilience plan in place for your organization is no longer a luxury, it’s a must-have.
