Millions of people start their freshman years on a yearly basis. It is a very exciting time for many, an opportunity that will open doors to many aspects of your future life.

You have been waiting for some time in your life to go to college, and so you want it to be a worthwhile experience.

If you are getting the jitters, that is completely normal as well. As long as you take the college experience seriously, you will be fine.

By taking it seriously, we mean in all types of aspects that we will get into.

This article will give you some of the best advice you can find on the internet, by people who were in the exact same position as you are right now.

  1. Table of Contents
    Don’t slack off
    Try to find internships opportunities
    Get involved ASAP!
Get out of your comfort zone
It’s perfectly fine if you don’t get close to your roommate
Sit in the front of the class
Morning classes should be the way to go

    Don’t slack off

You are paying a lot of money to be in the place you are right now, and so it is best to take every moment seriously.

If you feel pressurized, that is good because that will push you to go to classes and do your work on time.

The last thing you want to do is spend every semester by putting in the bare minimum. (You will be surprised at how common this is.)

  1. Try to find internships opportunities

This may sound very early to be looking for internships but you will be in a great position if you manage to find something in your first year.

It will help you immensely in finding a job when you graduate. These days even entry level positions require at least a year of experience, which you will have in the bag with your internships.

Even if you don’t find internship opportunities right away, you should still keep networking with people who may be helpful in the future like free essay writer.

  1. Get involved ASAP!

Everyone is new in the first semester, which makes it very easy to make new friends. This is not the time to be shy.

Make the first move with people, and introduce yourself. Pretty soon you will have a group of friends that you can regularly hang out with.

Getting involved also means signing up for some clubs your college will have. Lots of other students will be doing it, and you will have a higher chance of befriending like minded people.

  1. Get out of your comfort zone

It’s okay to want to be in your comfort zone, but the first couple years of college is not the time to do it.

Try to be more open to saying yes to things even if you wouldn’t normally. You will realize that these will be some of the best memories you make, and some of the experiences you will have.

Chances are you won’t be alone. You will have a bunch of people around you who are also trying to get out of their comfort zones.

  1. It’s perfectly fine if you don’t get close to your roommate

There is a common stereotype that suggests you should be best friends with your college roommate.

This does not happen to everyone, and it is perfectly normal.

If you feel uncomfortable, you can try talking to them and set some boundaries, but your roommate is not someone you should rely on for socializing.

With that being said, there should be mutual respect between you and your roommate otherwise it can make things very difficult.

  1. Sit in the front of the class

Even if you have been a backbencher in the past, it is time to leave that behind (literally).

You might feel uncomfortable in the beginning, but it will be so much better for you in terms of paying attention.

Since you will be in the front of the teacher, you will think twice about pulling out your phone and scrolling through social media.

It is also a plus because the entire class won’t turn to look at you when you ask a question!

This way, your teacher is more likely to remember you which is a very good thing considering how you will be in a class with more than 50 other people.

  1. Morning classes should be the way to go

You might struggle with this in the beginning if you are not a morning person, but you will be really thankful to yourself for the rest of the semester when you are practically free after 2 pm.

The most common thing students struggle with is time management, and you should use your time as efficiently as possible.

Think of this way; once you wake up for class, you will have started your day. But afternoon classes usually means all those morning hours wasted.
