Do you get notifications via email on booking your movie tickets or ordering food online or any e-purchase? If yes, you are into a technology called Robotic Process Automation or RPA. The world is now open to automation and changes are brought out drastically through it. Let us elaborate on the term RPA.
“Robotics refers to the entities that copy human actions and are called robots.”
A process is a series of steps that are carried out to perform a specific task.
Automation is a technique through which a task is done by robots and not by humans.
With RPA, you can configure software “robots” to store data and perform routine tasks that may include automated emails or streamlining process flows or business operations.
This article introduces you to the RPA Developer role, their skills, and how can RPA with UiPath Certification Training helps you get certified.
What is an RPA Developer?
RPA Developer designs automation tasks to perform routine tasks of a business. An RPA Developer works with business operations and business analysts to create and optimize workflow processes. You may also be in charge of testing and debugging the code. As an RPA Developer, you must be able to navigate various technologies such as UiPath or Automation Anywhere. It requires practice in documentation and planning.
Once the automation is designed and rolled into the production, an RPA Developer needs to ensure that the designed automation works according to the requirements.
RPA Developer Job and Salary Trends
Both start-ups and well-established companies are giving lucrative salaries to RPA Developers, so the career opportunities will grow significantly. Currently, there are around 5.5k jobs in the US, 500 jobs in the UK, and 3.4k jobs in India for RPA Developers.
The salary of an RPA Developer varies according to the parameters like position, role, location, and company. According to Indeed.com the salaries in the US are:

Let us now see what are the skills required to become an RPA Developer.
Skills Required to Become an RPA Developer
After reading about what is RPA Developer and related trends, now let us see what are the skills required to become a successful RPA Developer.
- Analytical skills:
As the term suggests, you should be able to analyze the process thoroughly and conclude with the steps necessary for improvement. RPA is adopted to bring improvement to the business workflow, so an RPA Developer is expected to manage the technology that actually brings out the improvement.
- Problem Solving approach:
No work is done without any mistakes or problems, and the same holds true in automation. Automation may not work as you want it to do so, mistakes arise at any point of workflow. You must be able to test the bug and fix it so that it doesn’t pop-up again. The ability to debug a robot might be easy, quicker and create a lesser mess.
- Strong Planning Skills:
To execute this role successfully, the strong planning of every task is crucial. Creating specific goals for design and initiatives to be taken for an RPA project, mapping out workflow makes it easier to implement it.
- Expertise in Programming Languages:
Deep knowledge of programming languages is a must for this role. The programming languages may include C/C++, Python, Ruby, Java and many more. This is because you need to test the code and debug them. If you don’t have a prior and thorough knowledge of these languages, you might stand out in this role.
- Understanding of Microsoft Windows:
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows is critical. An RPA Developer should be able to perform minor administrative tasks on the system and related applications.
- Experience with the process:
Analysis, Design and Implementation, Business and Technical Requirements, Problem Solving and System Testing can be beneficial.
A basic understanding of the Lean Six Sigma process methodologies is also expected. Apart from these skills, there are more skills that you will need to develop as an RPA Developer. Now that we have seen the skills required, let us now see what is RPA Certification and how it can be achieved.
What is UiPath Advanced RPA Developer Certification?
The UiPath Advanced RPA Developer Certificate ensures that a candidate has attained a thorough knowledge about the UiPath platform and its features. A candidate is able to successfully automate a real-life project based on UiPath’s best practices and automation principles. The candidate should be qualified to fulfill the RPA Developer role in an RPA Robotic Operations Center(ROC) or Center of Excellence(COE).
There are no prerequisites for this certification but it is strongly recommended that prior knowledge of RPA Developer Advanced Learning Plan (Foundation, Orchestrator, and Advanced training and REFramework knowledge) to apply for the certification.
The certification program is an end-to-end online process built on the UiPath Certification Platform.
The certification exam has two phases:
Phase-I theoretical exam:
After complying with the legal and payment terms, you are given 90 minutes to solve a quiz of 45 multiple choice questions, with a minimum of 70% to pass the exam. For a retake, you need to wait for a minimum of 24 hours.
Phase II- Practical exam:
You will be given an exercise to solve in 3 hours and 30 minutes. Again, you need to score a minimum of 70% to pass this phase. You will get three pass attempts per voucher.
Once you achieve the certification, it remains valid for one year.
RPA using UiPath Certification Training
